Is everything you know about the House of Windsor from watching Netflix’s, “The Crown?”

Maybe you started to pay attention during William and Kate’s wedding, or even Harry and Megan’s dramatic entrance and exit from royalty. Regardless of how interested you are in the Royal Family, The Queen of England has been a figurehead for 70 years.

She has often been called the “accidental queen”. Her uncle left the throne to marry a divorcee (quite the scandal at the time), making her father King and putting her in the line of succession. At age 25, she ascended the throne, after her father’s death.

We can learn a lot from the beloved monarch and her impressive 70 year rule as queen. Her rule exceeded that of her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather combined. Her reign started just after World War II, can you fathom how much the world has changed since then? She was born before Penicillin and sliced bread were a thing!

As we mourn her loss and celebrate her life, let’s hear some words of wisdom from this female icon.

On losing someone we love:

“Grief is the price we pay for love.”

On how to be a leader:

“I know of no single formula for success, but over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together.”

On how to be better:

“It has always been easy to hate and destroy. To build and to cherish is much more difficult.”

On growing old:

“With age does come experience and that can be a virtue if it is sensibly used.”

On fashion:

“I can never wear beige because nobody will know who I am.”

On looking to the future:

“I believe that, young or old, we have as much to look forward to with confidence and hope as we have to look back on with pride.”

Rest In Peace, Queen Elizabeth II.
