Gifts for the Hostess

Party and dinner invitations are plentiful during the holidays. While not obligatory, bringing a hostess gift is a wonderful way to show your host how much you value the invitation and the work put into creating a fantastic event. Gifts don’t need to be over the top or too costly, but a token of your appreciation. Here are some ideas for great hostess gifts:

Her Favorite Treat

If you are particularly close to the hostess and know what she likes, bring that. Her favorite chocolate, her favorite ice cream, or even her drink of choice. Something she can enjoy all by herself once the event is over.

Potted Plant or Flowers

Something fresh and green is always a wonderful way to brighten up a home. Especially during the cold months, fresh flowers or a potted plant can liven up an indoor space. Your host may even use this as a table decoration for the event.

Cheese Knives

Specialty cutlery can be a welcome gift for friends who enjoy hosting. They are small and don’t take up a large amount of space in the kitchen, but are very useful for parties and family gatherings.

Specialty Coffee or Tea

This gift is such a universally enjoyed gift. Even if your host isn’t a regular coffee or tea drinker, a specialty version is a good excuse to grab a cup and cozy up during the cold weather.

A Good Book

Share your favorite bookstore find with your hostess. After a rowdy evening, she is sure to need an excuse to take a few minutes to herself. You could also include a little note about why you enjoyed the book.

Pretty Apron

Kitchen stores and even some boutiques carry good looking aprons. As a hostess, she will want to protect her clothing while preparing and serving food. A fancy apron is a great way to keep her outfit clean and help her look stylish at the same time.

Handwritten Note

Classics are that way for a reason. A hand-written thank you note never goes out of style. Heartfelt gratitude is a welcome gift for any occasion.

Hostesses typically host because they want to. Expressing thanks for putting time and effort into the event is still a kind gesture as a guest. Gifts don’t need to be fancy or expensive to be meaningful.
